Information and Regulations
In 2024, Wine Connection launched a new wine competition—the first international event for this young company from Ciudad Real: the International Volcanic Wine Awards. Through this initiative, the competition’s main objectives were successfully achieved: to highlight wines produced in volcanic regions worldwide. These wines, while still relatively unknown, are increasingly sought after by consumers for their distinctive characteristics.
At the tasting held on October 9 in Ciudad Real, more than fifty wine samples from six countries and thirty different designations of origin competed. The jury, presided over by renowned oenologist Pedro Sarrión, described the participating wines as being of outstanding quality, emphasizing the diversity in both grape varieties and winemaking techniques—factors that made the tasting both challenging and rewarding.
The list of winners reflects the rich diversity of the competition, featuring wines from Chile, Portugal, Hungary, Italy, and several Spanish designations of origin, including Campo de Calatrava, Lanzarote, Tacoronte, and Abona, among others.
The International Volcanic Wine Awards organization is highly satisfied with the warm reception of this first edition and is already working on the second edition, aiming to reach all volcanic wine regions worldwide.
